Mukesh Sharma is India's leading exponent of Sarod among the younger generation. His highly versatile and esthetic perception of the Sarod has enabled him to touch most profound depths of his instruments. His purity of style, uniqueness of imagination with his brilliant technique in which he blends the elements of "Gayaki ie, Vocal rendering and "Layakari" ie... Instrumental rhythmic patterns, make his recitals enchanting.

The outstanding feature of his rendering is that it not only reflects the musicians mood and his nuances but also adds to the overall power and effect of the ragas. His
music is filled with melodic command and rhythmic complexity making for an experience that is incomparably sweet, melancholic and joyous.

His father Late Rasik Bihari Lal was an eminent Sarod Artist. Mukesh had his initial training from late Pt.Suprabhat Paul, late Dr. Ramaballabh Mishra and Pt.Birju Maharaj. Later he came under the guidance of the renowned Sarod Maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan.

 Mukesh has to his credit many awards. 
He was the winner of:
*The "UP Sangeet Natak Academy Competition" 1976-77 & 1977-78
*The "All India Radio Music Competition" 1979
*The "All India Inter University Competition" 1982 & 1983
*"Sur-Mani" title at the Swami Haridas Sangeet Sammelan at Bombay 1988
*"Yuva Pratisthan Puraskar" by Rashtriya Yuva Pratisthan, Uttar Pradesh 1989.

He is an "A" Grade artist of the All India Radio Doodarshan Kendra. He is a Senior Fellowship from The Ministry of Culture, Government of India from 1995 to 1997. 

Mukesh's biography is published in "Asian/American Who is who" and "Biography Today". He has performed in many prestigious concerts in India and in countries like France, Germany, Spain, U.K., Latvia, Russia, Mauritius, Reunion Island, Singapore, Bangladesh, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Austria, Holland, Cyprus and Gulf countries etc. His CD records entitled "India Calling", "Raga Miyan Malhar" and "The Call of Horizons" have been released in France, Germany and Holland.He has been teaching classical instrumental music  for the last 25 years in India as well as in abroad..
